Atlanta, Georgia - Porsche will unveil its new 2007 911 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28; this latest 911 sports coupe will feature a 415 hp, naturally-aspirated engine with 8400 rpm redline, track-tuned active suspension and mechanical limited-slip differential.
Serving as the homologation basis for Porsche's 911 GT3 RSR racecar, the 911 GT3 features a 3.6-litre flat-six engine that produces a specific output of 115.3 horsepower-per-litre, among the highest of any naturally-aspirated production car. The GT3 also uses a revised six-speed manual transmission with lower gear ratios for second through sixth, as well as shortened throws; a new change-up display illuminates the tachometer shortly before the relevant engine speed is reached to provide drivers with an additional signal to optimize shift timing. The 2007 911 GT3 reaches zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, and 160 km/h from a standing start in 8.7 seconds, with a top test-track speed of 310 km/h.
For the first time, the 911 GT3 has an active suspension, with a default configuration similar to that of the previous model, plus a Sport mode that provides even firmer damping. A comprehensive traction package includes new electronic Traction Control adapted from the Carrera GT, along with 19-inch sport tires and mechanical limited-slip differential. The GT3 will be available in North America beginning in August 2006, with pricing set at US$106,000.
