Not to be outdone by Nissan's reduced 2010 Sentra pricing (http://wot.motortrend.com/6541444/auto-news/2010-nissan-sentra-gets-more-features-lower-price/index.html), Hyundai announced a price cut of its own and reduced the MSRP of all 2010 Elantra Touring (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/112_0904_2009_hyundai_elantra_touring_test) models by a generous $1800 while adding two trim levels.
In case you didn't already know, the Elantra Touring five-door is the sportier rendition of the standard sedan and now comes in GLS, SE, and Touring trims. Even at the base level, the Elantra hatchback gets a slew of standard features like Electronic Stability Control, four wheel disc brakes and XM satellite radio with iPod/USB/Auxiliary jacks. Spend not a penny more for air conditioning, power windows, heated mirrors, power door locks, remote keyless entry with alarm, four-way adjustable driver's seat and a cooled glovebox.
Cruise control comes with GLS models equipped with an automatic transmission. Tack on the new Popular Equipment Package and you'll get roof rails, a telescopic steering wheel, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, trip computer, eight-way driver's seat with lumbar support, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, sliding sunvisors, seatback pockets, retractable cargo cover, fog lights, illuminated ignition and a premium cloth interior with cloth door panel inserts.
Bump it up a trim level to the SE and a power sunroof with tilt and slide functions, heated front seats, leather steering wheel and shift knob, B&M Racing(r) sport shifter and 17-inch alloy wheels with P215/45R17 tires are added.
Power still comes from the standard 138-hp 2.0L four-cylinder making 136 lb-ft of torque.
Here's the full 2010 Elantra Touring pricing schedule:
GLS five-speed M/T -- $15,995
GLS four-speed A/T -- $17,195
SE M/T -- $18,995
Touring A/T -- $19,975
Note: Prices do not include a $720 destination and handling charge.
Look for the 2010 Elantra to hit dealers this third quarter.
