Hyundai Talus
'Talus' is a slope formed in a mountain range by fallen rocks and debris, so perhaps would have been a more suitable name for an off-roader - but we've been reliably informed that this name, which Hyundai has recently trademarked, will be used for the Korean firm's replacement for the Accent.
Larger, wider and more bulbous-looking than the dated Accent, with a roomy boot and curved tailgate, this is the first Hyundai to have been fully developed with European buyers in mind, rather than just mildly re-worked. It should give Hyundai its first credible contender in the all-important 'Golf class', which accounts for a huge proportion of the European car market. Engineered at the company's new research and development centre in Russelsheim, near Frankfurt, it will still be made in Korea, however, as Hyundai's proposed factory in Europe is still a few years off opening.
