GENEVA, Switzerland -- A thundering BMW 500-horsepower V10 sport sedan and a sumptuous Rolls-Royce convertible kicked-started a parade of new vehicles at Geneva's annual auto show Tuesday.
BMW hung a figurative fig leaf over its new M5 super sedan, insisting the car was a concept. But the car is nearly identical to the model that goes on sale in Europe later this year, and it could reach American dealerships in 2005.
The car added front-fender vents and a number of subtle styling touches to the 5-series sedan that went on sale late last year, but the massive disc brakes filling its lightweight custom wheels were a more obvious sign of BMW's intent to build the world's fastest midsize sedan.
Powered by a 5.0-liter V10 based on BMW's Formula One racing engine, the M5 can accelerate from 0 to 62 m.p.h. in "well under" 5.0 seconds and to 124 m.p.h. in 13 seconds, BMW research and development chief Burkhard Goeschel promised. The M5 also featured a clutchless, seven-speed sequential manual transmission with racing-type paddle shifters on its steering wheel.

Si je le trouvais déroutant au début, je m'habitue de plus en plus au style de Chris Bangle. Et pour ce qui est du groupe motopropulseur, que rajouter de plus! 8)
