At auto shows, Volvo has already introduced its new S40 sedan and V50 station wagon, both sharing styling elements with other, larger Volvo sedans and wagons.

Still top-secret, though, is a new coupe version, likely to be named the C50. The photo here shows for the first time a disguised prototype of the C50 during cold-weather testing in Scandinavia.

The C50 coupe will share the platform of the S40/V50 models, but it is expected that the styling will be completely different. In fact, the design of the new C50 is said to be reminiscent of Volvo's curvaceous 1800S sports car, which it produced in very limited numbers in the 1960s.

The C50 will likely share mechanicals with the V50 wagon, which offers a choice of 168-hp five-cylinder or a 218-hp turbo five-cylinder engines. It will also likely offer all-wheel drive as an option. In fact, it is likely that the prototype in the photos is testing out its AWD system on the ice.

It is expected that Volvo will introduce the new C50 this summer, possibly along with a convertible model.
