Les journalistes ont choisi. Et contrairement aux États-Uniens, leur choix est intelligent.

Ford and Honda share Canadian Car and Truck of the Year awards

Ford Mustang wins Canadian Car of the Year, Best New Design; Honda Odyssey wins Canadian Truck of the Year, Honda Accord Hybrid named Best new Technology.

The Ford Mustang was declared Canadian Car of the Year for 2005 by the Automobile Journalists Assocation of Canada (AJAC), while the Honda Odyssey minivan was named Canadian Truck of the Year. The awards were announced this morning during a press conference in conjunction with the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

"It's official: The 2005 Ford Mustang is the best new car in Canada," says Joe Hinrichs, Ford of Canada president and CEO. "It's truly gratifying to see Canadian journalists confirm what more than 40 years of Mustang owners already know - that Mustang is the true embodiment of design, driver satisfaction and affordability."

AJAC president Richard Russell said the Honda Odyssey "is the (minivan) leader once again."

The Ford Mustang was also named "Best New Design" for 2005. Contenders for the Car of the Year award included the Chrysler 300C (Best New Luxury Car) and Honda Accord Hybrid (Best New Alternative Power). Nominations for Truck of the Year also included the Toyota Tacoma (Best New Pick-up) and the BMW X3 3.0i. The Honda Accord Hybrid was named "Best New Technology" for 2005.

The Canadian Car of the Year awards are an annual event that brings the top automotive journalists from across Canada to a small town in Ontario where 64 eligible vehicles were tested during a four-day TestFest to select the best new vehicles in twelve categories.

Members of the AJAC Car of the Year Awards committee include CanadianDriver Senior Writer Paul Williams, who presented the "Best New Technology" award and regular contributor Laurance Yap, chairperson of the Committee, who presented the Car of the Year award.
