New York, New York - Dodge has unveiled the 2006 Charger SRT8, the latest in its lineup of 6.1-litre Hemi-powered vehicles.
"The all-new Dodge Charger embodies all of the key attributes of the Dodge brand - bold, powerful, street-smart and full of life," said Darryl Jackson, Vice President, Dodge Marketing, Chrysler Group.
Just as the very first 1964 Charger concept car carried a Hemi, the 2006 SRT8 does too. Its 6.1-litre Hemi has an orange block and black valve covers to emulate the company's famed 426-cid version. This new one produces 425 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. The Charger SRT8 is rated at zero to 100 km/hr in around five seconds, and zero to 161 km/hr in the mid-16 second range. It runs a quarter-mile in the 13-second range, and braking distance is 100 km/hr to zero in approximately 30.4 metres.
The Charger SRT8 package includes an SRT-tuned suspension package, lowered ride height, and unique five-spoke 20-inch forged aluminum wheels on high-performance Goodyear Supercar F1 tires. Brakes are four-piston Brembo calipers with vented rotors.
The SRT8 also comes with a unique front fascia, heritage-style badge, 300 km/hr speedometer and sport seats with suede inserts. It will be built exclusively in Brampton, Ontario.
