Whitby, Ontario - BMW Canada has announced pricing for the 2006 3 Series sedan, which goes on sale later this month in Canada. The 215 hp, 3.0-litre 325i sedan starts at $39,900, the same price as the former 184 hp, 2.5-litre 325i. The 255 hp, 3.0-litre 330i sedan starts at $47,500, just $100 more than the 225 hp model it replaces.
"We are extremely pleased to offer Canadians with the new version of this iconic sports sedan at a price that provides tremendous value," said Lindsay Duffield, President and CEO, BMW Group Canada. "At these prices combined with the increased level of standard equipment and dynamic improvements, we are confident that the new 3 Series Sedan will bring pure driving pleasure to a record number of 3 Series owners in Canada."
Both engines are inline six-cylinders and are the first in large-scale series production to use magnesium, which is 30 per cent lighter than aluminum. The engine design is also the first six-cylinder to use BMW Valvetronic, which uses infinitely variable valve lift in place of the traditional throttle butterfly for improved throttle response and fuel efficiency. Both models will be offered with a choice of six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed Steptronic automatic. The 3 Series will be available with xDrive all-wheel-drive, beginning this October.
