Kia Announces Pricing on All-New 2006 Rio Sedan and Rio5 Five-Door

Redesigned Rio Offers More Room and Safety Features at a Tremendous Value

IRVINE, Calif., August 4, 2005 – Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced pricing for its all-new 2006 Rio four-door sedan and Rio5 five-door. Arriving at dealerships nationwide in mid-August, the Rio sedan will have a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $10,570 while the Rio5 five-door will start at $13,500.

The new Rio sedan and Rio5 five-door feature best-in-class interior room and a class-leading six standard airbags – dual advanced front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags – making it the lowest priced vehicle on the market to offer six standard airbags. Both Rios feature a more powerful 110-horsepower DOHC 1.6-liter engine with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) while delivering up to a 20-percent improvement in fuel economy over its predecessor.

“The all-new 2006 Rio sedan and Rio5 five-door models offer an exciting combination of sporty styling, safety and tremendous value, which will make them stand out in their class,” said Peter M. Butterfield, president and CEO of Kia Motors America. “This is just another example of Kia’s commitment to build stylish, fun-to-drive vehicles with high levels of comfort, roominess and class-leading safety features.”

The Rio sedan is available in two well-equipped models – Base and LX. The Base model starts at $10,570 and comes equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. The LX model starts at $12,445 and comes standard with A/C, AM/FM/CD audio system, power/tilt steering and a 60/40 split folding rear seat. It is available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

Rounding out the Rio lineup, the Rio5 five-door comes in a sporty SX trim that includes all of the features found on the LX model and adds 15-inch alloy wheels with 195/55R15 tires, fog lights, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metal-grain interior trim and metal pedals. Starting at $13,500, the Rio5 SX is available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

Like all Kia models, the new Rio sedan and Rio5 will be covered by Kia's comprehensive warranty program, which includes a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty.

The full line of Kia models including the Sorento midsize SUV, Sedona minivan, Amanti premium large sedan, Optima midsize sedan, Sportage compact SUV, Spectra compact sedan and Spectra5 hatchback as well as the Rio subcompact sedan and Rio5 five-door are available at more than 600 retailers nationwide.
