Toronto, Ontario - Toyota Canada announced the Highlander Hybrid goes on sale in Canada this Summer with an MSRP of $44,205 for the five-passenger model with standard air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows and locks. The seven-passenger model, with leather interior, automatic climate control, anti-theft system and premium audio is $53,145.

The Highlander Hybrid is powered by a new version of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powertrain, featuring an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission and Toyota's first-ever application of on-demand, electronic four-wheel-drive with intelligence (4WD-i).

Its 3.3-litre V6 works seamlessly with a high-torque electric drive motor-generator to develop a peak system output equivalent to 268 horsepower. The Highlander is also a full hybrid, capable of operating in separate gasoline or electric modes, or combining both.

Fuel consumption figures are 7.5 L/100 km in the city, and 8.1 L/100 km on the highway. The Highlander, like the Toyota Prius hybrid, shuts off its engine at idle for enhanced fuel savings.
