Richmond Hill, Ontario - Toyota and BMW have the highest 48-month average resale values for passenger cars and light trucks, respectively, reports industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers. At the other end of the scale, Oldsmobile had the lowest residual values for passenger cars, while for light trucks, Mazda had the lowest residual values.

The figures, calculated using January 2006's figures from Canadian Black Book, show an overall industry average of 34.9 per cent resale value for passenger cars purchased four years ago, and 41.1 per cent for light trucks.

Passenger cars showing above-average resale values, in order, are Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo, Audi, Mazda, Nissan and Volkswagen; those showing below-average values, in order, are Infiniti, Subaru, Saab, Chevrolet, Buick, Hyundai, Pontiac, Mercury (no longer sold new in Canada), Jaguar, Suzuki, Ford, Lincoln, Cadillac, Saturn, Chrysler and Oldsmobile.

Among light trucks (including SUVs), those above the industry average, in order, are BMW, Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, Subaru and Nissan; below average, in order, are Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Suzuki, General Motors and Mazda.
