2001 Toyota Trucks - One Tough Line-Up

Toyota is touting 2001 as its 'Year of the Truck', and by the looks of the extensive additions and upgrades to this year's fleet, it's a slogan that they come by honestly. The biggest news is big news indeed, as the heavyweight 2390 kg Sequoia hits the market. It's the largest import sport utility ever! At the opposite end of the spectrum, Toyota's redesigned and much improved RAV4 is a flyweight in comparison. The stalwart 4Runner hasn't been forgotten, receiving improved performance, more options and a lower price. The Toyota Highlander, an all-new model based on the acclaimed Lexus RX 300, arrives in the New Year.

Fortunately, Toyota's pick-up truck line hasn't been left in the dust. The Tacoma gets a fresh new look along with a four-door variation called Double Cab. Also, a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) option is now available on the Tundra, improving handling on the highway as well as off road.

2001 Sequoia

Last year Toyota impressed everyone with the introduction of the full-size Tundra pick-up, the only import with a V8 engine. This year Toyota taunts the domestics once again, with the first imported full-size sport utility vehicle. The Sequoia is based on Toyota's award-winning full-size truck platform, although the rear suspension has been totally revamped from the truck style leaf spring set-up to a more car-like 4-link coil system.
