Recently riding around Ottawa in my brother's, the lawyer, Volvo S70, I got to listen to a very impressive stream of frustration over the way the car is working and the way the dealer is treating him.

In a break in the litany of complaints, I suggested that it was a good thing that his lease was ending and he would be able to get some other kind of car. He looked at me like I was crazy and informed me that, of course, he was going to get another Volvo.

He did not say it in so many words, but he was telling me that he felt that a Volvo was the most suitable car for a man of his current station.

This makes him one of those brand-conscious and brand-loyal people that make staffers at car companies giggle with delight, since you cannot drive them away even by selling them a poor quality car and treating them badly at the service bay.

It is folks like these who will be the most interested in the arrival of the Volvo S/V40 models, since these units lower considerably the price entry point to the Swedish brand, dropping the sticker below $30 000 for the first time in many years.

Specifically, the listed price for an S40 sedan will be $29 995, while the V40 wagon retails for $30 995. Volvo Canada officials hedged like crazy over a possible lease price, but you can likely expect nothing lower than $399 a month and maybe something more than that if the company does not think it needs to support the car with subvented rates.

So, if most of the potential consumers wait a couple of months to lease it, they can expect a lower monthly payment.
