I have had my 2018 Mazda 6 Signature trim car for three weeks. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I traded in a 2014 BMW 228i for this car and was not sure if I was going to like the change. The appearance and fit and finish on the car is exemplary. Although I like the styling on the front better than the back, it is a beautiful car both inside and out. I love the Signature interior with the Napa leather, suede inserts, wood and chrome accents. The Bose sound system is way better that the Harmon Kardon system in my former BMW. I was a little worried about the infotainment system from the reviews, but overall I like it. My phone synced effortlessly with the system, and I really like the Pandora, and Stitcher app integration and the Sirius XM radio. The navigation system is fine, but it does not have live traffic updates which is a negative. I am looking forward to the Android Auto update that is to be released in July. I have been averaging about 23 mpg in combination of city and highway driving. The acceleration is quite good with excellent handling. I love the safety features that Mazda has on the car and the heads up display. For $35,000, this is an excellent car and outstanding value.

Drove a GS-L turbo last week. What a change from the 2014! The first thing I noticed was the quiet, actual quiet unlike the constant tire-whirring Accord 2.0t Sport. The smaller 17 inch wheels probably help, as does the 50% thicker sheet metal between the rear wheelwells and beefed up suspension links. On the BiHi in Halifax, it ignored the scabrous pavement and just whisked up to an illegal 130 no effort at all. Uphill. Smooth. Quiet. The TLX V6 FWD should be as good, but isn't. The steering tracked arrow straight as well. The engine is a hero, except for smart takeoffs from rest in low in town. There I found it noisy and inline 4 coarse until it grabbed second. Gentler starts means it grabs second almost immediately and no noise seems to happen. This engine doesn't need 8 or ten speeds. And just six means using the paddles is actually useful. To decelerate downhill you just clack the downshift a couple of times, and it holds them for a while like my Legacy. The 10 speed Accord required six clacks to get to fourth, then if you just breathe on the gas, boom - Drive again, utterly useless. Demerits for me include the too-far forward B-pillar, that reduces side and rear vision, and makes egress like hauling oneself out of a hole. GTIs have the same problem; Subarus do not. The only thing missing is AWD. I mashed the gas from a stop, and traction control or not, the right front tire howled. Wet or snowy roads would need to be watched carefully. Funnily enough, I noticed no torque steer at all though. Oh and the infotainment system is rubbish, but I don't care personally except for the low res screen. Overall, very nice indeed. For $35.5K including freight/PDI, it makes those compact CUVs seem like poor choices in the refinement stakes for the same money. Like my brother's CX-5 for instance. The two more expensive grades of Maxda6 seem nice. But out of the additional features, only Sirius XM and Nappa leather and power front passenger seat interest me. Bigger wheels strike me as a demerit at tire replacement and snow tire time.
