Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it will recall about 72,000 Scion tC sport coupes in North America to fix a possible problem with a moonroof wind deflector.

The vehicles in question are those from 2005 and early 2006 models of the coupe.

Toyota said the original glass wind deflector, which tilts upward into the airstream when the moonroof is open, can be damaged by impact from road debris at highway speeds.

In some cases, the deflector can shatter and pieces can fall into the passenger compartment, it said.

Three such cases have been reported to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker said.

The tC coupe, produced in Japan, is only sold in the North American market.
