Toronto 2016: Hyundai Santa Cruz concept lands in Canada

By ,

The Hyundai Santa Cruz concept made its national debut yesterday at the 2016 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. Combining the benefits of a pickup and a compact SUV, the future production model will hit the market in 2017 .

Rivals like the GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado, and all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline should watch their backs.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz concept boasts a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine that produces 190 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque while burning only 7.8L/100 km, according to the automaker. Innovative features include an extensible tailgate that provides the same amount of cargo space as a midsize truck, making this Hyundai a good alternative for people who want more versatility than a traditional SUV without getting a full-blown pickup truck.

More details about the production Santa Cruz will be revealed in April.
