Subaru announces EyeSight coming, celebrates BRZ line-off

By ,

Subaru this week announced plans to bring its EyeSight driving assist suite to North America beginning this summer. The technology, already a proven hit in Japan where EyeSight models account for 90% of all Legacy and Outback sales, is the world’s first to use solely stereo camera technology to detect objects in front of the car, such as pedestrians or cyclists. The suite includes pre-collision braking control, pre-collision brake assist system, lane-sway warning system and adaptive cruise with all-speed range tracking function.

EyeSight rolled out in Japan in 2010 and Australia last year. In North America, it will appear first in 2013 Legacy and Outback models as an optional feature. The company plans to roll out the technology globally following its North American debut.

Also this week, Subaru and Toyota luminaries enjoyed a line-off ceremony for the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 at Subaru’s Gunma Main Plant in Ota-city, Gunma Prefecture, Japan.

The ceremony also marks the culmination of a strategic development partnership undertaken in October 2005. Subaru plans to bring Impreza production to the Gunma Plant next March.
