Mercedes-Benz G-Class
The lone German entry on the list is another model you’re more likely to see on California’s boulevards than plowing through the woods. And yet, the G Class (for “Geländewagen”) has everything required to transport its occupants in the greatest comfort and with the utmost confidence. Given its rather elitist price tag and its refrigerator-on-wheels image embedded in the public imagination, few owners are likely to risk taking it off the beaten track, even if the model’s 4X4 architecture allows it. With no fewer than three limited-slip differentials mounted in the vehicle, the G can go anywhere, or just about! What’s more, the 2019 edition of this legendary German heavyweight is apparently getting upgraded capabilities.
