9 — Mazda CX-5
Since the middle of last year, Mazda has finally offered a diesel-engine variant of its CX-5 SUV. I say finally because we've been promised this bloc for 10 years. Ironically, now that it’s finally here, the timing Mazda chose to roll it out was if not atrocious, at least dodgy. Because, well, the diesel thing is no longer so trendy among consumers. Worse yet, the fuel economy delivered by the powertrain isn't worth the premium you have to pay for it, which is about $5,000.
We expect a short career for this version of the popular CX-5 here in Canada. A regular-engine CX-5 is still the best choice.
