5. Mazda CX-9
For a long time the Mazda CX-9 was the neglected child of this segment, mainly because Mazda was sticking too high a price tag on it. In fact, contrary to another model higher up this ranking, this represented probably the lowest-value proposition available in the category, if not on the market as a whole.
The latest revision of the model in 2017 changed that considerably – in fact the 2017 edition won our Auto123.com Award for Best Midsize SUV of the Year . Mazda gave its biggest SUV a much-needed boost in terms of overall quality, to the point where the current asking price is, in our view, entirely reasonable. What’s more, with the Signature version the manufacturer plays the luxury card, all the more notable since Mazda has no premium automotive division à la Lexus or Acura. This one falls into the worth-a-second-look category.
