12 – Mitsubishi Outlander
The Mitsubishi Outlander has generated a lot of talk over the last year, mainly due to the arrival of a plug-in hybrid version on the roster. That PHEV took the model onwards and upwards in terms of sales, but the place it was starting from was so far back of the others it still sits in 12th position in the category.
For now, the PHEV versions remains competition-free in the segment, that’S about to change with the introduction of the 2020 Ford Escape PHEV. Toyota is also working on a plug-in version of its RAV4 (see No. 1 on this list).
