The current fashion for rugged-looking – and in at least some cases rugged-in-practice – pickups really began with this model. The Ford F-150 Raptor, with its suspension capable of resisting jumps and its enlarged body, not to mention its 450-hp twin-turbo V6 engine, still impresses, even if it has to deal with a new, more powerful rival (which you’ll meet next).

The Blue Oval automaker won't take the new challenge lying down, that much is clear. The financial stakes are high indeed in this cash-cow of a segment. And so, engineers are certainly already at work on the 2021 model, though we still await word on when that will be unveiled. Stay tuned.
