1950 356 Coupe “Ferdinand”
Looking striking in black paint with classic “dog dish” wheels, the Coupe Ferdinand was named for Ferdinand Porsche, to whom this was presented as a gift for his 75th birthday, and it looks spectacularly stealthy. While it’s in the collection now, it didn’t start out as a museum piece, clocking up over 400,000 km as a test bed for other 356 models.

25 of these were built in just a few short months, as Porsche needed to build that many in order to be eligible for European sports car racing. Whether or not Porsche knew at the time that it would be the first in a line of legendary sports cars, we’ll never know, but one thing’s for sure: sports car and racing enthusiasts alike are happy it worked out as it did.
