There have been many versions of the “Kurzheck” short-tail 917s – you can see two of them here – but this one is a little special - not because of its unique tail fins, but more because of what can’t be seen: the magnesium frame underneath. Porsche was so secretive about the tech that in order to fool Automobile Club d’Ouest officials, they didn’t even tell drivers Gijs van Lennep and Helmut Marko about it.
