The German manufacturer has long been involved in research for electric mobility. The i8 exotic car was the first rechargeable hybrid vehicle from the brand. But let’s say that sports model is a mite less very practical than the X3, which can be had with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

By the way, BMW’s Canadian website also lists a PHEV trim for the X5, but the brand's Canadian product guide doesn't include it among the choices available to consumers.

In any event, the X3 Plug-In Hybrid is a direct rival to the Audi Q5 TFSI e. BMW's PHEV is not as fast as its Audi enemy, making do with 288 hp, but still, in this niche, power isn't everything. The 29-km electric range isn't the best in the industry though.
