Against all odds, Volkswagen AG managed to sell more cars in August 2016 than it did during the same period a year ago.
Global sales reached 453,000 units last month, which represents a 4.7% increase. And during the first half of 2016, VW sold 3.83 million vehicles worldwide, about the same amount as last year.
While North and South American markets fell 9.1% and 34.2%, respectively, as a direct result of Dieselgate , sales in Asia (+16.2%) and Europe (+2.9%) allowed the automaker to catch up.
And with a massive electrification plan that includes the upcoming launch of a revolutionary concept in Paris , Volkswagen looks poised to regain some luster and maybe even the trust of consumers.
