After lots of thought and rearranging the top-five, over and over again, this is my final assessment of the top moments of the 2006 Champ Car season. source: paddocktalk.com - Brad Gerhart Each of the moments could have been the top one of the season since each had a significant effect on the season, good or bad. But it is clear that all five contributed and made up some of the greatest and most talked about moments of the year. Before we get to the top-five, a quick rundown of the top-10 10.) Crazy weather in Montreal - Rain forced the event to be moved to Monday 9.) Power on the pole at Sufer's - The hometown driver wins his first pole award in front of his fans. 8.) Captain Quebec - Paul Tracy showcases a luchador like wrestling mask and cape during pre-race ceremonies to entertain the Quebec crowd. 7.) Tracy Fighting Frenchmen - PT takes on Tagliani and Bourdais 6.) Katherine Legge crash - Horrific crash leaves many fans worried, comes out with only minor injuries The top-five moments of the 2006 season 5.) Nelson Philippe Wins Down Under It was a fabulous turn of events for the young French driver. Many had serious doubts about Philippe as a quality driver in Champ Car. But in his third season Philippe proved he belonged with a sensational win at Surfers Paradise. In what could be called, the feel good story of the year for Champ Car, Nelson also won (for the second year in a row), the most improved driver award. No one really expected Philippe to be on top of the podium, expect Philippe. With incredible hard work and perseverance Philippe accomplished his goal. But pay attention, Philippe has his sights on more wins and hopes to be a series contender for the championship in 2007. Having had the opportunity to speak with Nelson and realize what he is all about, I have no doubt we'll be seeing him on the top podium more times in the future.
