Pride with Canadian Talent and Canadian Forces Troops from Afghanistan
source: grandprixtoronto.com Canadians can watch in pride as they witness some of the top Canadian drivers from coast to coast compete at the Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto. Joining the drivers will be Canadian Forces troops stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan as they command the most famous words in racing - "Drivers Start Your Engines". As the roar of the engines fill Exhibition Place, spectators will experience the thrill of three F-18 Canadian Forces fighter jets flying past the track at 500 feet and a speed of over 215 knots (400 km/h). "The Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto is Canada's race," says Charlie Johnstone, president & CEO, Grand Prix Association of Toronto. "Over the years, the Toronto event has become a driver, team and fan favourite with its week-long festival of speed and the overwhelming support of Canadian fans. This year we are pleased to welcome back the Canadian Forces and are thrilled to have an impressive line-up of Canadian racing talent competing on the Exhibition Place Track." 55 Canadian Racers Taking on the World When visitors to this year's Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto take in the on-track action, they will witness top Canadian racing talent competing against drivers from around the globe for a victory on their home turf. - Long-time rivals, Toronto's Paul Tracy and Montreal's Alex Tagliani, will battle it out on the Exhibition Place Circuit. Having just come off a win in Cleveland, will Tracy be able to claim his third Toronto win in front of his hometown fans? - Rising racing stars and Torontonians James Hinchcliffe and Robert Wickens of the Champ Car Atlantic series will challenge a field of 30 other drivers in the premier open-wheel development series in North America. Canadian talent in this series is strong with drivers from British Columbia to Quebec including Adrien Heberts (Vancouver, BC), Mike Forest (Edmonton, AB) and Kevin Lacroix (Saint-Eustache, PQ). So far this season, Hinchcliffe and Wickens have been the dominating Canadians and currently sit second and third in the Championship Points Standings. - SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge will make its debut on the Toronto track, featuring Canadian Racing legend Ron Fellows as he joins fellow Canadian Andrew Wojteczko (Caledon, ON) and Kuno Wittmer (Montreal, PQ) in the field of more than 60 cars.
