2016/17 Formula E season opener set to be held downtown MontrealTwo days ago, Denis Coderre, mayor of Montreal, said during a press conference that his city was set to stage a round of the FIA Formula E electric championship.
British magazine Autosport has learned Thursday that the 2016/17 season could well begin in Montreal in September 2016. Mayor Coderre attended the Miami e-Prix two months ago, and had constructive talks with the organizers of the all-electric series. "We are in good discussion with them," Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag told Autosport. "The idea is that, if we can find a track and make everything feasible, to race there for the opening race of the third season, in September." The intention is for the race to take place on a new street circuit in the city centre, rather than the Gilles-Villeneuve Formula 1 track. Sited in Ile Notre-Dame. Alejandro Agag is hopeful that the schedule for the second Formula E season will be finalised in the coming weeks. |
