During its nine-year run, Honda helped raise CART's profile... ...and level of competition while becoming the dominant engine in the Champ Car series. source: CART.com From marketing drivers and races to winning six consecutive driver championships and four manufacturer's titles, Honda delivered on every front. "We enjoyed our time in the CART, for the most part, and we leave with a lot of great memories," said Tom Elliott, president of Honda Performance Development. "We were affiliated with a lot of quality people and we accomplished just about everything we'd hoped to when this project began 10 years ago." Few manufacturers have ever experienced a slower start and faster finish than Honda. In 1994, Bobby Rahal and Mike Groff struggled with Honda's initial motor--finishing 10th and 20th, respectively, in the final standings. Rahal, a three-time CART champion, failed to win a race and only led two laps while Groff's best showing was a sixth place. Both bailed on Honda in favor of Ilmors at Indianapolis. "When we came into CART, we had a long-term plan and we knew it wouldn't be easy. We tried to tell people that and they didn't believe it," said Elliott.
