Veteran Indy-style racing team manager John Anderson
has joined Andretti Green Racing as one of AGR's two Team Managers.
Anderson, who will share responsibilities with George Klotz, will also serve as
race strategist for the No. 26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone
driven by Dan Wheldon.
"We are very excited to bring John Anderson back on board," said Kevin Savoree,
who co-owns Andretti Green Racing with Michael Andretti and Kim Green. "He
brings a wealth of experience and a good understanding for how Andretti Green
likes to operate. He has been a good friend to many of us at this team for a lot
of years and is a great addition."
Anderson has spent the last two years as director of operations for the Champ
Car World Series. Prior to joining the staff at Champ Car, Anderson spent two
years at Team Green as a consultant and race strategist for driver Paul Tracy.
"Andretti Green Racing has quickly established itself, not just in the IndyCar
Series, but in the motorsports industry, and it is going to be great to be a
part of it," Anderson said. "I'm really looking forward to working with Dan
Wheldon and everyone on the team. Hopefully, we can bring another championship
to this building and continue the great things that have been started here."
Wheldon, who won three races in 2004 and finished second in the
IndyCar Series point standings, is looking forward to building a successful
relationship with Anderson.
"To have someone of John's caliber come in and take over in this role is
certainly exciting for me," Wheldon said. "I hope we can pick up where we left
off in 2004, win some more races and make another run at the IndyCar Series
championship."
Anderson, a native of Australia, is in his fourth decade of involvement in the
motorsports industry. He began as a mechanic for a Formula 5000 team in
Australia before coming to the United States in 1981. Anderson began working in
Indy-style racing in 1984 as a mechanic for Forsythe Racing and then advanced to
the level of team manager and crew chief at Mike Curb Motorsports in 1986.
He has also served as crew chief or team manager for Galles Racing, King
Motorsports, A.J. Foyt Racing and Pac West Racing Group. Among the drivers he
has worked with are Al Unser Jr., Roberto Guerrero, A.J. Foyt, Mauricio Gugelmin,
Mark Blundell and Scott Dixon.
