The rise of Mario Andretti from immigrant child to one of the finest drivers
ever to turn a wheel in a race car has been chronicled many times, but fans will
get a chance to see some never-before-seen footage and learn some things they
may not know about the life of the Champ Car legend this coming Wednesday.
Adam Friedman's Traveling Light Media production company and Mario Andretti
biographer Gordon Kirby have collaborated on a biography of the four-time Champ
Car titlewinner, which will premiere on the A&E Network this Wednesday, 15
December, with the show airing at 10am and again at 4pm.
The biography, which has been in the works for nearly a full year, contains
video footage from four decades of racing and celebrates not only Andretti's
many Champ Car triumphs, but also those of his Formula One World Championship
career. It also covers his success in both NASCAR and sportscar racing. During
the show, Paul Newman, Dan Gurney, Ashley Judd, Jay Leno and a host of
luminaries both in racing and the entertainment world will share their thoughts
on what Andretti meant to them and to the sport of racing.
Andretti is the all-time Champ Car leader in poles with 67 and starts with 407
and is second in victories with 52. He is one of only four drivers to ever win
Champ Car and Formula One championships, and also claimed victories in the
Daytona 500 as well as in sports-car endurance races in Sebring, Daytona and
Brands Hatch.
