Everybody knows the basis for success in racing is teamwork. source: paddocktalk.com - Anne Proffit Successful continuity within a team is predicated on a good group of human beings developing the kind of rapport that renders them a single unit. On rare occasions, team owners may choose to make driver substitutions for other than injury timeouts, but it's quite unusual that situation occurs mid-season. This year's 14-contest Champ Car World Series is a horse of another color. After a bare four events, AJ Allmendinger was dismissed from his RuSPORT ride, leaving the team that was formed for him and brought him to the Atlantic dance (resulting in a rookie championship) and into the Champ cars. The story of The Dinger's route to Forsythe Championship Racing has been retold countless times, as kind of racing's equivalent to baseball's Tinkers-Evers-Chance. Allmendinger to Forsythe, Dominguez to Coyne and da Matta to RuSPORT was how it all worked out. Nicely triangulated until Road America's stray deer took da Matta out of the equation - right after his best result of the year on the mean streets of San Jose, RuSPORT's loss started the next round of musical hand-made chairs. Now we're at the last race of the season - the grand finale - and with the championship already decided in Sebastien Bourdais' favor, there's another upheaval, one that started with Allmendinger's decision to go to NASCAR for, yes, the money and also for the exposure he's getting that is lacking within the open wheel arena.
