There is one certainty about the Toronto Indy source: champweb.net The very minute the checkered flag dropped on Sunday to end the 19th edition of the monstrously successful event, Bob Singleton and his superb staff began work on the 20th. This time there is a difference, however. Singleton -- who is the general manager of the event -- not only is preparing for a significant anniversary of the Indy, he also will have to decide what form the race will take on the track next season. After a long-time relationship with the Champ Car World Series and its CART predecessor, Singleton now must judge whether that business partnership still is viable as the Toronto Indy hits 20. The contract with Champ Car is up for renewal both in Toronto and at the Vancouver Indy. Molson is expected to sign a five-year sponsorship extension soon for the Toronto and Vancouver events without specifying a particular circuit. Singleton admits that this time out the split between Champ Car and the Indianapolis Racing League hurt his event more than any time in the past. Not by much, mind you, but enough to cause concern in the boardroom at Molson headquarters. Unlike what many may think, this race does not sell itself.
