It was a weekend of firsts for Graham Rahal and the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team in Monterrey, Mexico. source: conquestracing.com After capturing his first Atlantic pole yesterday, Rahal ended the weekend with his first victory in the series in only his third race, becoming the youngest winner in Atlantic series history. The 17 year-old driver put in quite a performance to capture his first win. He led from start to finish, registered the fastest lap of the race, on lap 29, with a time of 1:23.206, in doing so he also set a new race track record. "I am really excited about my first win. The team has been doing well all season and I came into Monterrey feeling we had a great chance to win," said Rahal. "It was a perfect weekend. We came out strong, quickest by half a second, and never really looked back. The car was balanced all race and I kept in the 23-second bracket and eventually pulled out a big lead." That perfect weekend started with Rahal topping the first and second practice sessions on Friday and Saturday as well as claiming the pole in final round qualifying on Saturday. The points collected with this first win move Rahal into third place in the Championship standings, 23 points behind series leader Andreas Wirth. "I am happy to have closed the gap in the championship, Andreas has been quick all season so to be able to gain some points on him is great for the championship." Before heading to Portland for the fourth round of the Atlantic Championship in less than a month, Graham Rahal will be testing with his Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team next week in Sebring.
