Andreas Wirth Joins Forsythe Racing in the Champ Car Atlantic Series for 2006 source: Gail Shankland Sometimes no news is good news ... and that is very much the case with the young race car driver, Andreas Wirth from Germany. The last that most people heard of Andreas he was 2nd in the points standing in the Toyota Atlantic Series Championship when he crashed in the morning warm up at Road America. The disappointing incident left Andreas with vertebrae damage, putting him out of the last two races of the Toyota Atlantic season, and in turn out of contention for the championship title. "It was a stupid accident, really nobody's fault" he said. "I've just left it behind me as a race accident, that's all. But it definitely wasn't what I had hoped for. I had such a good run in Denver, I think anything could have happened." Truly a heartbreaking end to the season for this promising young star, especially after his earlier success. With so little information available about Andreas over the past few months, we're happy to see that he's back ...back from his physical rehabilitation and ready to race again. According to Andreas, "the rehabilitation went well ...I'm still doing some stretching for my back, things I'd never done before. Honestly I don't even really know how long it took to get 100% again, I was just doing my exercises every day to recover as fast as possible, and everything went pretty fast. The doctors I stayed with in Austria were very good, and they helped me a lot mentally." Andreas' first experience back in the car since his accident was for a test with Sierra Sierra at the end of November 2005. Things went well and Andreas was happy to be back in the saddle again. At the time he said, "I think it went pretty well after being out of the car for more than three months. I felt good, no pain or anything. I was there from the very first second, so I was really happy about how everything went, so we'll wait and see." Since that time, Andreas has enjoyed his time back at home in Germany spending time with friends and family over the holidays. But now, with all that behind him, it's back to business ... he's back, and eager for the 2006 season to begin. Anxious to get racing again, there's hardly been a spare moment for this dynamic young man, as he's already been preparing for the season ahead.
