With the Champ Car, Toyota Atlantic, Trans-Am and Honda-Michelin series on the
race schedule and drifting, motocross, wakeboarding, skateboarding and music for
added entertainment, the audience at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for the fourth
Molson Indy Montreal on August 26-28 will not have any time to get bored.
That was the assurance today from the organizers during a noon press conference
at the Molson Brewery as they unveiled the program of events, in the company of
Quebec drivers Andrew Ranger, Alexandre Tagliani and Antoine Bessette.
Mr. Martin Spalding, General Manager of the Molson Indy Montreal, took the
occasion to announce that tickets go on sale as of today and to state that the
pricing structure has been completely revised.
"We wanted to let everyone have access to our concept of a great party with
excitement guaranteed all around the site," said Mr. Spalding, after outlining
the program. So the most expensive seat for all three days of the event will
sell for $185 and it will be possible to attend Friday's program, with a general
admission ticket, for as little as $20. The cost of a visit to the Champ Car
paddock will be $20 per day or $35 for all three days.
Demonstration of extreme sports
The Molson Indy Montreal has decided to include in its 2005 program a
spectacular assortment of demonstrations at various places around the Circuit
Gilles-Villeneuve. For the first time, the discipline of drifting - still not
widely known by the Quebec public - will be featured. Some great names from
motocross, known for their acrobatic skills, will also be present. In other
places, spectators will be able to get a great view of some highly tuned-up show
cars and enjoy the prowess of some ace skateboarders, particularly in the
discipline of halfpipe. The Ile Notre-Dame lake will also play its part with
some demonstrations of wakeboarding.
"We're convinced that fans of these new disciplines don't really know about
high-level open-wheel auto racing such as Champ Car. We want to help them
discover this extraordinary spectacle and all the thrills that go with it," said
the General Manager of the Molson Indy Montreal.
A program of spectacular races
Besides the 11th round of the Champ Car series, in which Quebec's Alexandre
Tagliani and Andrew Ranger will be two of the stars on track, the Molson Indy
Montreal will also be the scene for the final round of the Toyota Atlantic
championship. Antoine Bessette, another Quebec driver present today, is one of
the rising stars of Atlantic and it was announced during the press conference
that the series will hold its banquet, crowning its champion, for the first time
in Montreal.
Montreal and the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve will also welcome for the first time
some 20 powerful muscle cars from the Trans-Am championship, which will also be
having its final event of the 2005 calendar. A round of the ever-popular
Honda-Michelin series is also on the program for the 2005 Molson Indy Montreal.
Contagious enthusiasm
The General Manager expressed confidence that the event will be a success,
underlining that the Champ Car series is enjoying a serious revival in interest.
"What Normand Legault and myself saw earlier this year at Long Beach is greatly
encouraging," said Martin Spalding. "Champ Car has taken a turn for the better
since a new team took control a little more than a year ago. Their enthusiasm is
contagious," he added.
During the press conference, it was also announced that the Casino of Montreal
and Levitra will be major sponsors of the event, as well as Molson, of course.
Finally, the theme for the advertising campaign conceived by the Montreal agency
Diesel, was also unveiled: "Focused on winning. Not much else."
