Team Australia has continued its impressive opening weekend results with Alex Tagliani and Will Power both qualifying in the top nine for tomorrow's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach - the opening round of the Champ Car World Series. source: teamaustraliamotorsport.com Tagliani was seventh fastest in his Aussie Vineyards Lola while Power has qualified ninth for this first North American Champ Car race. Power, who made his debut at the Lexmark Indy 300 last October, was the leading rookie of the five in the field and the only one in the top 10. The final qualifying sheet may have looked a little different if a red flag had not been waved two minutes before the end of the session. Power and fellow rookie Charles Zwolsman got together at turn 11 and effectively blocked the track at the slowest point of the course. Reigning series champion Sebastian Bourdais has taken pole for tomorrow's two-hour race after out qualifying Englishman Justin Wilson and Brazilian Bruno Junqeira. Bourdais' time of one minute and 6.886 seconds was 0.608 of a second faster than Paul Tracy's 2005 pole time. Amazingly, eight countries are represented in the top nine qualifiers. Female driver Katherine Legge, making her Champ Car debut, was 17th in the 18-car field In the Champ Car Atlantics Series Simon Pagenaud has qualified his Team Australia car in third position for tomorrow's opening race. Pagenaud was quickest yesterday, but lost two spots to Andres Wirth and Raphael Matus today. Young Australian talent James Davison was 18th fastest in the second Aussie Vineyards car.
