Sebastien Bourdais' landmark win at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach has been nominated for the Los Angeles Sports Council's 2006 "Greatest Moment in Sports" in the motorsports category. source: paddocktalk.com Bourdais' 2006 season-opening win served as a springboard to the Frenchman's third consecutive Champ Car championship, equaling the series' all-time mark set by Ted Horn (1946-48). Winners in each of 18 categories will be voted on by sports fans throughout Southern California through January 8 at www.lasports.org. The awards are co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Sports Council and FSN Prime Ticket, and include such categories as Dodgers and Angels baseball, Lakers and Clippers basketball, tennis, golf and horse racing, among others. The award winners will be announced at a gala on Sun., Jan. 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, which will be telecast live by FSN PRIME TICKET. An additional four honors - Sportsman, Sportswoman, Executive and Overall Great Moment - will be chosen by the L.A. Sports Awards media panel and announced at the gala. Last year, Katherine Legge's victory in the Toyota Atlantic Championship Series race during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend -- the first-ever win by a woman in a major, open-wheel race in North America -- was named the "Greatest Motorsports Moment" of 2005. The L.A. Sports Awards event is an annual fundraiser for the non-profit L.A. Sports Council, which promotes economic development through sports in Southern California.
