Sebastien Bourdais scored a memorable win at the Denver street track last night to yet again take control of the title race in his Newman Haas Lola B2/00. The Frenchman took the win despite a spin at the first corner when his team mate Bruno Junqueira attempted to wrest the lead from the pole sitter.
Dropping down to 13th position Bourdais then drove what was arguably the race of his life, picking off those in front of him to make it in to 5th place by the time of the first pit stops. With just 25 laps remaining, Paul Tracy led the event and was seemingly in charge at the front as early race leader, Junqueira was by this time in trouble with fading brakes. Mario Dominguez held 2nd with a fast approaching Bourdais in hot pursuit.
