Sam Hornish Jr, wins the 225-Lap Race
source: Max D'Orsonnens Patrick Carpentier finished seventh in Round 10 of the Indy Racing League Indy Car Series held Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile. Starting 14th, the Red Bull Cheever Racing driver quickly earned four spots to settle in 10th place. However, the very fast pace set by the leaders early in the event cost him one circuit on lap 54. After the first round of pit stops, the Canadian driver managed to keep the pace. Carpentier gained three more positions in the second half of the race following three separate incidents involving some of the race leaders. He completed 224 of the 225-lap race. So far this season, Carpentier has finished six times in the Top-9. Polesitter Sam Hornish Jr., of the United States, won a hard-fought battle against Dario Franchitti of Scotland in the final eight laps of the event to win his second race of the season, the 14th of his IRL career. Hornish crossed the finish line only 0.3836 seconds ahead of Franchitti, while third place went to South African Tomas Scheckter who finished 0.6502 seconds back of the winner. Tony Kanaan and Dan Wheldon, the Andretti-Green teammates of Franchitti, respectively finished fourth and fifth. The win by Team Penske was a bit overshadowed by the fact that Hornish tangled with his teammate Helio Castroneves while fighting for second place on lap 171. After lengthy repairs, Castroneves came back to finish 16th, 19 laps down on the winner. American Bryan Herta, who finished sixth, was the last driver on the lead lap. Alex Barron, finished eighth behind his teammate Carpentier. As for Danica Patrick, she was running in sixth place when the rear of her car let go on lap 127. She came out unhurt after hitting the cement wall.
