If it was Patrick Carpentier's goal to just finish and look respectable in his first Indy Racing League event, he was content yesterday at Homestead Miami Speedway source: canoe.ca And if he was hoping to compete with the front-runners, he left the track happy. Carpentier, who moved to the IRL from Champ Car this past offseason, was a huge beneficiary of a seven-car crash with 41 laps left in the race that allowed him to finish seventh in the Toyota Indy 300. Carpentier was in 12th when the wreck happened, but he managed to manoeuvre his Red Bull Cheever Racing Toyota around the crash. "I saw Scott Sharp start to go sideways and then I saw a couple of cars get together with Danica Patrick and my only thought was to make it through," Carpentier said. When the dust cleared, the 33-year-old Carpentier had made it past the wreckage unscathed. "I am very happy," he said. "We got more points than we should have." Carpentier was referring to the myriad of problems his team had gone through in the practice and qualifying rounds. "We had more problems than we ever had in all our winter testing," he said.
