Because it's about driving, not power
source: jsonline.com - By Dave Kallmann Patrick Carpentier has had his eye on this weekend for some time. IRL driver Patrick Carpentier, right talks with childhood friend Dave Tamburrino, left a former Olympic speed skater It's not because the 33-year-old Canadian has old friends in the Milwaukee area from his days as an elite-level speedskater. And it's not because of some affinity the first-year Indy Racing League driver holds for the Milwaukee Mile because he set the track's all-time qualifying record while he raced in Champ Car. It's mostly because Carpentier thinks that the Mile, as much as any other track left on the schedule, will give his team its best chance to compete. The ABC Supply / A.J. Foyt 225 is set for 1:45 p.m. Sunday. "It's a flat track and only a mile," Carpentier said. "You've got to drive it, and the chassis has to be working, and it's not all power. It should be fun." Just look at the season standings or the results from any of the fastest tracks on the IRL schedule, and it's readily apparent that Honda and Chevrolet teams have an edge this season and that among the Toyota runners there are two distinct classes: Team Penske and non-Team Penske. Carpentier, then, ranks as best in class, the first of the non-Penske Toyota drivers, 10th in the standings with a pair of thirds as his top finishes for Cheever Racing.
