Rumors can be an interesting to read, a funny tidbit, an interesting
opportunity for speculation, or just plain stupid talk. And while rumors may
'be' the news, that doesn't mean they are accurate, or aren't just made up.

Early in the life of PaddockTalk, we decided to create the category of rumors.
Why?
Because like most sports, much of the racing 'news' coverage (print or
electronic) revolves around rumors, speculation, and innuendo. And rumors need
to be clearly separated from the real news.
The recent conversations between IRL driver Patrick Carpentier, and his team
owner, Eddie Cheever, are a great example.
While some news reports were quick to avoid words like 'seems' and 'apparently',
and ran the story right next to the daily news, we ran it as a rumor... and
apparently there were two sides to this story.
So here's the latest....
The talk that Patrick was going to bail from Cheever racing after the Indy 500
was apparently wrong. Carpentier told the Indystar, "I never said I would quit
after Indy. What I said was, I hope we improve and get through Indy well. But
I'm not going to leave in the middle of the season."
The PaddockTalk Perspective:
There are always two or more sides to a story.... rumors normally only have
one.
