Red Bull Cheever Racing - Kentucky Practice / Qualifying Report
source: Red Bull Cheever Racing The sun was beating down on the 1.5-mile tri-oval today at Kentucky Speedway, which sent the mercury rising but not the speeds. However, the oppressive heat didn't stand in the way of the Red Bull Cheever team from putting in some work in the practice sessions before rains came several minutes into qualifying. The rain forced the cancellation of qualifying, and the starting grid for tomorrow's race has been determined by the best combined practice speeds from today's two sessions. Alex Barron completed 87 laps in the #51 car during the two sessions with a best speed of 214.990 mph. This result places him in 19th position for the race. "We spent a lot of time on the track during practice today trying different things, and I think the car is better than it was at the Toyota test. We think we have a pretty good handle on race setup, but we'll see how things go in the big pack during warm up tomorrow. I think this is one of those tracks where qualifying isn't really that important, so we just need to hang with the lead pack in the race and see what happens," Barron said. Patrick Carpentier ran 90 laps during the practice periods and was just a tick slower than his teammate, turning in a best speed of 214.893 mph, which places him in 20th on the grid.
