The takeover of the financially troubled CART series faces yet another potential legal hurdle source: tsn.ca The company that owns California Speedway has filed a lawsuit against CART
following last month's cancellation of the season ending race at Fontana. The speedway's owners, International Speedway Corp., contend that the race could have been rescheduled for a later date. ISC says it's contract with CART entitles them to recover upwards of $2.5-million. "Speedway officials held multiple discussions with CART regarding postponing its race, but CART insisted on delaying a decision until closer to the event," read a statement issued by ISC. "Speedway officials disagreed with CART's position, as to continue delaying a decision would have put a tremendous burden on fans and competitors, as well as fire safety, medical and security personnel." "On 28 October... Speedway officials announced the postponement of the coming weekend's events. CART announced the cancellation of the event on 29 October." "The company hopes the dispute with CART will be resolved quickly." The CART series is in the process of being taken over by a group of current team owners, who plan to take the company private upon completion of the sale.
