Oriol Servia has now been confirmed as Bruno
Junqueira's replacement at Newman/Haas Racing for this weekend's third round of
the Champ Car World Series at Milwaukee, but there were a number of drivers
approached for the seat following Junqueira's Indy 500 crash, including BAR
Honda test driver Anthony Davidson.
Davidson, who tested with Team Green a few years ago, turned down the one off
offer preferring to focus his attention on landing a race seat with BAR in 2006.
"I got approached by Newman-Haas to replace Bruno Junqueira," ITV-F1 report the
British driver as saying. "But I decided not to go forward with it because my
main objective is race with BAR Honda in Formula One next year."
Davidson is firmly under contract to BAR Honda and has flirted with Champ Car
before. Now however it seems that he is chasing Jenson Button's seat in the team
should he confirm that he is moving to WilliamsF1 next year.
Davidson will face stiff competition for the seat, with Dan Wheldon believed to
be on Honda's list of preferred drivers while Autosport magazine also claims
that Rubens Barrichello could be a target for the drive, despite another year to
run on his contract at Ferrari.
