Extension for Laguna Seca
source: cart.com INDIANAPOLIS - One of the most picturesque and challenging courses on the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford schedule will remain on the slate until 2004 as the fabled Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Champ Car announced Tuesday that the two sides had signed a contract extension for the next two seasons. Part of the Champ Car scene since Teo Fabi won the inaugural series event in 1983, the 2.238-mile permanent road course that winds through the Monterey countryside has been a permanent fixture on the schedule - as well as the site of some of the most famous races in the 25-year history of the series. "We are delighted to be able to announce this extension with what is one of the finest permanent road courses in the United States," said CART CEO and President Christopher R. Pook. "Our teams, drivers and more importantly, our fans, have made it clear that they enjoy having a number of natural terrain road courses on the schedule and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is a key part of our strategy." Today's announcement extends the track's sanctioning agreement with the Champ Car World Series for the next two years, ensuring that the race will take place in 2003 and 2004, and includes a series option to hold the race in 2005 and 2006.
