Not to belabor the point, but we really don't care about car count discussions. source: paddocktalk.com - rumors We are more interested in a full field of VERY talented drivers that have won races and championships in other series. But with the new lower cost DP01, it appears the Champ Car World Series is well prepared for fuller fields next season. In fact, Kevin Kalkhoven tells Robin Miller at SPEEDtv.com that the series may have a full field - 24 total cars - for the 2008 season. And 24 cars will be the maximum allowed. Kalkhoven went on to explain that a team should be able to buy a rolling chassis - meaning the primary equipment to go racing for $1 million. They can race the full season, and be competitive for approximately $4 million which is pretty cheap by racing standards. Although there has been some speculation on the financial health of some of the currently teams in the series, the new financial package ought to help that situtation as well. The series has started 16-18 cars at each race this season, with Gelles Racing, and Pacific Coast Motorsports each announcing they will be fielding two Champ Cars in 2007. If one more team can find the sponsorship, the series could reach their goal early with 24 cars on the Long Beach grid in 2007. The PaddockTalk Perspective: Adding cars, and teams is great for the series. And the Champ Car series has made a brilliant comeback from the CART bankruptcy. Things are looking up!
