The car, a 2003 Ford Focus SVT fitted with Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position
tyres, will be driven by Champ Car pace car veteran Kelly Williams and
Bridgestone field support manager Mike Swope, and will compete in the Econo Car
class.
The unique event is nearly a 24-hour-a-day driving experience, combined with
time trial competitions on race tracks throughout the United States. Drivers
will cover more than 5000 miles with 'only the finest meals found at gas
stations and convenience stores' to sustain them. No support crews are allowed
and only one set of tyres and two spares can be used by each team.
"On behalf of everyone associated with the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car
World Series Powered by Ford, we are extremely proud to support this wonderful
and unique event through our sponsorship," said series president Dick Eidswick,
"Through our association with the Bridgestone brand and Ford in the Champ Car
World Series, we have immeasurable respect for the quality of both Bridgestone
tyres and Ford vehicles. We have no doubt that Kelly, Mike, the tyres and the
Ford Focus SVT are more than equal to this gruelling challenge."
